Upcoming Volunteer Events

 

Woodlands Volunteer Team - the last Saturday morning of every month (10am-Noon). Meet at the Giraffe (rear) entrance to the Zoo. If walking from Roxbury/Dorchester, come in at Elm Hill or Humboldt Ave and Seaver St. Buses #22, 29, and 44 stop here. You can catch one of these from Ruggles, Mattapan Square, Dudley, and Jackson Square. There's a large parking lot along the Playstead ballfields where you can park for free.

 

Valley Gates Parking Lot

Seasonal volunteer days start at Valley Gates Parking Lot.  The Valley Gates Parking Lot is located where Circuit Drive splits, with one fork going to the back of the Zoo.

MBTA - Take the Orange Line to Forest Hills Station then the #16 bus through the park. Look out the window, you'll see yellow "Clean-Up" sign pointing to Valley Gates Parking Lot, directly across from the golf course and next to the turn off to the Giraffe Entrance to the Zoo.  Ask the bus driver to stop there.

By Car - Look for yellow "Clean-Up" signs along the main park road. Mapquest Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road intersection or Forest Hills and Morton Street intersection.

From neighborhoods to the east: take Blue Hill Avenue and turn into the park at the intersection with Columbia Road (you'll see the Zoo New England sign). Go past the Zoo and golf clubhouse, just past a fork on your right is Valley Gates Parking Lot.

From neighborhoods to the west: take the Riverway/Jamaicaway/Arborway past Forest Hills, over the overpass, to the traffic circle where Morton St. (Rte 203) starts. In the circle, take the second right into the park (big wooden sign at the entrance). Drive past the Shattuck Hospital, when you see the golf course on your right Valley Gates Parking Lot is across the street on your left.
