Summer Youth Conservation Crew

Every summer, a group of 10-20 local teenagers is selected by the Coalition to work in the park.

Youth Crew members get paid to maintain the park, clear invasive plants, make improvements, and clean up  underused areas of the park, to make them more inviting to park users.

If you are 15 - 17 years old, or know someone that age who would like a job in the park this summer, sign up on Boston's HOPELINE during the February school vacation week and send in an application

Young people also learn about careers in landscaping and forestry, receive job training and skills, and go on field trips to meet professionals.  Crew members become leaders in their communities, spearheading an advocacy or service project each summer.

A college-age or adult supervisor, usually someone from the Franklin Park community, works with the Crew every day. One of the highlights of the summer is an overnight camping trip in New Hampshire. Crew members sleep in tents, climb a mountain, cook over a campfire, and swim in beautiful lake.

The Summer Youth program is made possible thanks to grants and support from the Blossom Fund, The Boston Foundation Summer Safety Initiative, Boston Youth Fund, City of Boston Community Grants, Green Leaf Foundation, the Hyams Foundation, Keyspan, and Timberland.
