Summer Edibles
Steep thyself in a bowl of summertime. -Virgil
Many spring weeds are still useful in the hotter months of July and August. Here's what you can find in Franklin Park during the summer:
Amaranth
Blackberries
Black cherries
Blueberries - The low bush blueberries throughout the park's woodlands don't produce lots of berries, but with patience you'll find a few.
Burdock
Cat-tails
Chickweed
Chicory
Chives
Dandelion
Huckleberries
Lamb's quarters
Mustard
Plantain
Purslane
Raspberries - these vary from year to year, but the two best spots we've found are at opposite ends of the park. One is near El Parquesito de Hermandad - the playground on Walnut Avenue near School Street. Walk just past the playground on the paved path and you'll find raspberry bushes on your right. The other spot is next to Mother's Rest, the sitting area along the golf course loop path, just in from Blue Hill Ave and American Legion Highway.
Sow thistle
Sumac
Wild rose hips
