Country Park

Olmsted's goal as a park developer was to create natural oases for harried urban residents.  Central to this theme, in Franklin Park, was the Country Park--a broad, winding meadow that hid the surrounding urban landscape.

Olmsted created a reservoir to irrigate the valley of the Country Park. The reservoir is located underground at the Overlook within the Wilderness.  Water from nearby Jamaica Pond was pumped into the reservoir.
